Customer Review:

I had another drive – the same size, make, model from the old my computer. My new system came with a disk 1TB, and I can not use disk space. Windows 7 Pro gave me the opportunity to create two disk RAID. Automatically creates a convenient backup solution for me. The frame is simply a keycode. You can perform the update, and the pieces just unlocked. It could not be easier.

Trouble w/ the install – once upgraded operates as described

took a little doing to unlock the upgrade on my Dell Studio – had to get a patch from Microsoft – now that I’ve completed the upgrade, everything is operating as it should.

Painless way to upgrade to premium features

Bought a cheap Toshiba laptop with Win7 Home Premium installed and really liked Win7. Fast, stable, nice eye candy, and great search service. Decided I also wanted XP Mode and encrypted file system, only available in the Professional (and Ultimate and Enterprise) editions. (Other additional features from Home Premium include presentation mode, network projector support, network backup support [wow!], offline file support, Windows domain support, and remote desktop host). Bought the Anytime Upgrade key online at a discount. Ran the Anytime Upgrade utility and 10 minutes later, my cheap Toshiba laptop became an even more powerful machine. I plan to buy some inexpensive memory modules to max out my laptop, then I’m in computer heaven!

Anytime Upgrade is great. It’s been around since Vista but this was the first time I tried it. Just great!

Windows 7 Upgrade Anytime Rocks

I’m a long-time Windows user and have been through many version upgrades. This is, without a doubt, the easiest upgrade ever. I’m now a very happy Windows 7 user, and am very happy with the Windows XP Mode feature that comes with the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro.

Upgraded from Vista home prem to 7 pro

I recommend doing a complete overwrite after backing up files. Might as well get rid of any remnants of Vista while you can. It really stinks to have to shovel out more money after spending so much on vista, but worth every cent to have a working system! I love being able to go back to my old XP programs using the XP add-on. I thought they would be wasted once I went to vista, but alas, I have them back again! Easy to install and use!

Works as expected

Installation was straightforward. I purchased for the “XP Mode” option, which works surprisingly well.

My CPU does support virtualization, which was required for XP mode when I purchased the upgrade. Since then, I’ve read that MS has gotten rid of that processor requirement.

Where To BuyMicrosoft Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade [Home Premium To Professional]

As advertised

The Windows 7 Professional upgrade does allow you to run older programs (e.g., MS Word 2000) that were compatible with Windows XP, but are not compatible with the newer operating system. Intergration with the ‘Virtual PC’ running XP mode and the Windows 7 environment is fair, but not perfect. For example, one of my printer drivers is incompatible with XP mode, so printing from the Virtual PC is difficult at times. The cost of this Windows upgrade is only justified by the fact that I don’t need to upgrade my Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Office 2000 software. The product, although you pay for shipping and it comes in a plastic box, is nothing more than a 25 digit unlock code.

Vast Improvement

I am extremely pleased with this edition of Windows, I especially like the side by side snap to windows and the task bar changes. It runs quick and crashes… I don’t think I’ve crashed yet and I got it on the release date!

Absolutely Lovin’ It!

I purchased this product to use with my medical transcription career. I have been using it for approximately two months and I absolutely love it so far! It has so many new features and seems to hold up better than any of the previous versions I have used! The possibilities are endless!

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade

At least 7 times better than Vista! This is what Vista should have been!

I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium last week. And even though most of my original programs and files need to be reinstalled (I did a clean “custom” install), the upgrade was absolutely worth it. Windows 7 is way more stable and and is just a more solid Operation System. The Windows Themes look jaw-droppingly beautiful and my computer (Dell XPS M1530) starts and shuts down at least 3x faster than before. I’m so glad that I made the switch as it’ll save me so much time and headache in the long run. One thought that keeps coming back to me is that: Why in the world did Microsoft release an incomplete OS such as Vista and why didn’t we get the 7 instead to begin with? I have yet to see how my new OS will stand the test of time. And I may come back and update my review in a few months or so, but for now, I’m extremely happy and satisfied. May the happiness continue. Amen!

Almost everything it’s cracked up to be

Believe it or not, Vista seemed more stable, but I love the new features. Amazon had it a great price so I took the plunge. Now I can print from my laptop on one end of the house to the printer on the other end of the house. It’s a better design than Vista.

Windows 7 Upgrade

The only problem occurred when I followed the instructions and tried to upgrade by starting Windows and then running the upgrade program. I continued to receive error messages and the upgrade shut down. I started with the CD in the drive (the standard way to install a new operating system) and it went great. I love 7 so much more than Vista. I am considering upgrading other Vista computers.

Upgrading From windows XP

If you are going to upgrade from Win XP, the upgrade software doesn’t allow you to retain and move your program files to the new operating system. It will only save your data files into a new folder called WINDOWS.OLD. To move the program files, I used a 3rd party program called PCMOVER (30 bucks and well worth it) from Laplink Software before running the Win 7 Upgrade. This allowed me to move my program files, desktop icons, and data files almost seamlessly. It takes a while, but well worth not having to reload programs.

Where To BuyMicrosoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade

Windows Vista 2

it is basically Windows Vista 2. The same, but with some new stuff. Was it a waste of time buying it? Not really….but if you got Windows Vista, dont run to get Windows 7……..only if you really want to buy

PurchaseMicrosoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade

Windows 7 Upgrade

I purchased two of these upgrade products. One was installed on a Dell notebook updating Windows Vista. Absolutely no problem at all. The second was installed on Dell off-lease desktop computer replacing an XP custom built computer that was beginning to give me problems. Since upgrading an XP operating system required a clean install I did it all at once. Installation of the Windows 7 operating system upgrade went without incident – just had to put my old Windows XP system diskette into the drive for the upgrade to “see” it and away it went. Very satisfied with the results and am now contemplating purchase of another Windows 7 upgrade for my sole remaining Dell XP machine…..no fun reinstalling all the software but it is worth it. Windows 7 gives remarkably fast boot and shut-down.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade

Windows 7 is great — HP had some problems

I am delighted with Windodws 7. I was not so delighted with HP. I seems that there were some issues between Windows 7 and a driver for certain features of my HP notebook. I had to return Windows 7 to Amazon.com and buy a new copy of the Windows 7 operating system from HP. Amazon was great in the return process and I received a full refund in less than 2 weeks. Once I received my new copy of Windows 7 from HP (which cost me an additional $12.00), HP support was very helpful with the installation.

So, Windows gets a ten, Amazon gets a ten, and HP gets a seven.

Kept me from switching completely

I recently switched to Mac for my profession but when Windows 7 came out, it made me keep at least one computer in my house which was Windows based. I now run both Mac and Windows on my laptop so that I can use any program at any time. I know many people have already stated this but Windows 7 is so much better than Vista that I shouldn’t even use both titles in the same sentence. I’m glad to see that Microsoft at least appears to be listening to its customers (and no, not just because of the commercials…I’m not a fan of those).

I enjoy Windows 7

I am not a microsoft fanboy, and actually own several apple and linux products as well. However, I do like Windows 7. I am not going to go in depth into the features that it offers, I am sure you can get that from other reviews and product descriptions. Rather, I will simply reveal my impressions of the operating system from when I installed it onwards.

Installation: I felt the installation handled easily. I performed a full install on both of my devices. I figure if I am going to the effort of changing my operating system, I might as well ensure that everything is fresh. I purchased Windows 7 with some kind of school program, and ended up paying a very small fee, only about $60, I believe. I aslo already owned both versions of Vista 32 and 64, so it was not too hard to make the change to 64 bit Windows 7. Compared to the likes of Windows XP, the installation is very smooth and easy to follow. I have done many many installations with Windows, so the fresh interface of this one was a nice change of pace. If I could make a complaint, I would say that it probably should have a step to step guide for the less knowledgable. Something along the lines of…Windows detected a partition on your drive, do you want to delete? Deleting will destroy all data previously on your hard drive…Windows has detected two hard drives, would you like to install on C: or E: (plus radio buttons, click continue). Something that kinds people step through step, as opposed to assuming they know what to do would have made this better. It didn’t bother me, but I could see some people preferring that.

Setup: After the installation was done, there were a couple of drivers I had to go searching for. Some were harder to find than others. It is frustrating to have a computer that can’t access the internet until you install drivers, but can’t install drivers until you can gain access to the internet. I figured it out, but this would be another issue for someone who is limited to one computer. It would have been nice if Microsoft spent more time compiling a list of network drivers, I feel this is an issue you shouldn’t face when installing windows. But I suppose that is why most computers come with a driver disk. Mine was for 32 bit, so I had some issues as a result.

Connection: After getting it working, I have had little complaint. The internet has worked well, although I have periods of disconnection. This same issue effects my ipad, so I believe this is an issue of my router or internet provider, and not the operating systems fault. Either way, the automatic fix option that the OS provides seems to fix the disconnections most of the time. Another thing I liked was when I plugged in my printer, it instantly found and installed all of the drivers. I know this was something Windows XP was never able to do, and it helped save a little time and made things a little easier, which I always appreciate.

Appearance: The appearance of the operating system is sufficient. I like the search icon in the start menu, as always. I like the information it gives me, and many of the new formats are nice. The symbol being used instead of the icon is nice, and allows much more organization when trying to find things such as webpages. With the mouse icon over it, it shows an image of each window open under that particular program. It is a little annoying because it makes it difficult to know how much stuff you are doing or have open, but it is nice because it makes finding the webpage or file you are working on far faster. Other improvements is that when the mouse icon is over a window, all the other windows disappear briefly. However, there have been a couple cases where this has been more annoying. So I guess it can be helpful, but can also be a nuisance, depending on your mood.

Speed: I have felt the speed is acceptable. I really don’t have any complaints when it comes down to it. I have noticed less freeze ups (points in which windows gets stuck) than I did with the previous version, which is probably a result of it being a more stable operating system.

Overall: Overall I have liked Windows 7. Naturally, it is an improvement over Vista, and while it isn’t perfect, nothing is. It has newer stuff and runs smoother than Windows XP, which is simply past it’s expiration date. Yeah, you can make windows xp run and do everything with updates, upgrades, and third party software, but why should you. I think this operating system runs a lot smoother with everything modern, such as internet connection, wireless, syncing portable devices, attaching and removing flash cards, and connecting new devices. Despite the microsoft hatred that everyone seems to throw at their OS, I think it is user friendly, and while more advanced computer users and programmers may get frustrated with it, I think most average users will be fine with it.

Low PriceMicrosoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Excellent OS

This is the best ever version of the Windows OS. Definitely worth replacing Vista. It’s much faster at loading software, it’s stable, it has very good personalizing features. The only drawback is that in this version–as have all since Win98–System Restore does not work, so as soon as you get your software installed make a rescue disk.

icrosoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Window’s 7

I had no problem whatsoever installing the program. I had previously been running what they tell me was a pirated version. I lost my hard drive, so started completely from scratch. Piece of cake. And I really like the features of 7. I have Vista at work, and am always glad to get home and use a GOOD OS!!

yMicrosoft Windows 7 Home Premium

Pleased I Waited

With all the hoopla over vista problems, I was reluctant to use it. And 7 to some degree. I had an occasion to use vista & liked the look but not all the unnecessary user interface. I’m pleased with 7 and the minimalist approach taken. I was aware of the lack of a built-in mail program but didn’t realize my ISP didn’t support windows live mail. I now have to read mail on-line and forward to live mail address if I want to file it on the computor. Not much hassle configuring 7 the way I wanted. All In All, I’ve found 7 to be pleasant departure from XP and the “more than reasonable” cost has made it worthwhile.

Customer Review:

I bought this item for my husband for his birthday. It is a total computer geek, and it was his birthday # 1 request.
I was hesitant to buy from third party item on Amazon I have my latest experience was a disaster because I learned the hard way that Amazon does not stand behind the third-party sellers. So I felt the market to shoot crap and pledged himself to the market went bad, I would never buy from Amazon again!
So I am happy to report that the item arrived much sooner than expected, and was in excellent condition and worked perfectly. Most of my husband was happy to have and could not wait for your computer! He seemed very pleased with his gift.
Thanks Amazon!

Thankfully, I dodged the Vista bullet

A lot of folks don’t have many good things to say about Microsoft but a lot of folks don’t like cheesecake either. So you know, you just have to wonder about the folks who don’t like cheesecake.

One of the major benefits of this operating system is that it will work well for you if you want to get into the weeds of the operating system and tweak it, but it also does a lot of things much better than XP did. The best example I can think of is how it is so bleeping easy to connect a laptop to a wireless network with this system. Essentially, it sniffs out a bunch of available networks and you just pick what you want to use and go. Nice. Folks who have used the Dell software to do this know how awful other wireless interfaces have been.

I would suggest that folks use this to replace an existing computer operating system entirely by formatting the hard drives and then doing a so-called ‘clean’ install of W7. The easiest way to do this is to first connect up an external drive and rip all of the stuff you want to save to your external drive. Then you insert the W7 disc and a while later, you will more than likely be in business. You’ll want to then copy over your old files from the external drive to the W7-equipped computer and install Word, Excel, Acrobat etc and do the updates.

Annoyances in 7 are somewhat few. The interface is certainly new but it’s quick to learn. I’m struggling with the whole ‘pinning’ thing on the start menu in terms of where to put stuff but it’s clever. The help files are excellent. I like that you can hover over an active program in your taskbar and see how many different spreadsheets you have open at a glance.

I upgraded another laptop today that had a bad virus. After 12 hours of messing with it, I ran W7 and it worked where XP failed to install. Somehow, W7 could torch something XP couldn’t and I have to say, XP has been a very reliable O/S in my experience.

So if you’re waiting, you can stop. This is a good, solid O/S that makes some of the annoying things (trying to hook up at Starbucks shouldn’t take more time than it takes to swill your double decaf caramel macchiato) really easy and will be the standard in a couple of years anyway so you might as well jump in.

Windows 7 is everything Vista should have been

I love Windows 7. It finally delivers on the promise of Windows Vista. I love how smoothly it works and does not crash. I’m a PC and Windows 7 was my idea!

SaveMicrosoft Windows 7 Professional Upgrade

UPGRADE FROM XP PRO

I just finished upgrading XP PRO to 7 PRO (64-bit) with only minor difficulty. Because my desktop could not handle Windows 7 I decided to purchase a notebook (from Mediawave). As I had XP Pro on my desktop I wanted to save by upgrading. I purchased 7 Pro Upgrade and performed a clean install. I could not install XP Pro first so when I activated 7 Pro it could not verify the upgrade. I emailed microsoft support (on Sunday afternoon – Pacific) and explained the situation. They called back within an hour. The technician by sharing the desktop, activated Windows 7 Pro very quickly after verifying disk and product key. He was very helpful and courteous and I couldn’t be happier.

Clearly the information in some critical comments does not necessarily apply (at least not in this instance). I highly recommend upgrading XP Pro to 7 Pro. You can expect efficient help from Microsoft if you encounter the upgrade problem I did.

MS finally gets it right

I delayed upgrading from Vista to 7 for as long as I could. I wanted to make sure MS got all the bugs worked out of 7 first.

I am so glad I upgraded. Windows 7 is great. It is stable (not a single crash yet after a month of using it on 2 computers). It is quick to boot up and shutdown. It has nifty features which enhance productivity (the snap windows resizing feature is something I now use multiple times a day, can’t live without it, the snag it tool is very handy and easy to use). In my view, everything has improved from Vista.

I used to look at Mac owners with a slight twinge of envy. No more. With Windows 7, I’m happy as a clam. For the first time ever, I really feel Microsoft finally got it right. Windows 7 is the best OS Microsoft has ever issued.

OrderMicrosoft Windows 7 Professional Upgrade

Finally..

Unless you own a Mac this is the only sensible choice. You’ll eventually be forced out of XP and the reigning queen of “wtf” is Vista, Linux distros are superb but not quite mainstream enough for business users working home to office and kids growing up on PCs.
But you’re actually going to like this Win 7 even though you’re pushed here. I’ve been on it now since the original RC version and I have had not one BSOD Yet! Amazingly reliable. It is even helpful if you run into a compatibility problem with an older software. It actually helps you find a solution and does so quickly. Now if only Wall St. would straighten up their act like MS did with 7 – ah, bliss.

PurchaseMicrosoft Windows 7 Professional Upgrade

Keen, but NOT lean

Overall I like many of the improvements that Windows 7 offers. I am currently running the basic edition on my EeePC and Windows 7 Professional on my desktop. Besides obvious cosmetic improvements Windows 7 provides functional improvements the facilitate workflow when navigating file explorer. It also seems to boot up faster than Windows XP. One feature really complicated my decision to assign a rating: the installation procedure. I started with a clean hard drive expecting to be able to perform a clean installation and insert my copy of Windows XP to prove ownership for the upgrade. But Windows 7 would not allow this. So, I had to re-install Windows XP in order for Windows 7 to see it resident on my hard drive in order to perform the installation. This is a HUGE negative for me! I cherish my hard drive space and previously slipstreamed Windows XP in order to reduce the footprint of the OS. So now I have several hundreds of MBs of space occupied by Windows XP. Can I delete the unused OS folder? I don’t know whether Windows 7 polices the hard drive to make sure I have Windows XP post-install. But this is a very annoying design that was not reported on the Windows 7 box.

In my years repairing and servicing laptops the below artivle I put together is from general repair experience on laptop computers.

From what I can tell you is, manufactures build laptops for company sales and profits, they do not build laptops for longevity. Manufactures market/advertise these laptops for what consumers are looking for, which is style, lightweight and the convenience of mobility. What I’m trying to say here is, laptops or any computer should not be mobile, for they will not last very long. But that’s ok, because the manufactures also understands once you purchase a laptop you’ll become “hooked on” the convenience of, the “need” of, and the mobility laptops. They also price the hardware components much higher on laptops, because they make more money when you buy a new laptop. For that is there sales, and company objective as I see it.

95% of the computer repairs that come to PCTech are laptops.

PCTechs 4 Main Problem/Failure Areas on Laptops:

1. Cracked, damaged, broken laptop LCD screens: Just in the last 3 months, approx 40 laptops came to PCTech for repair estimates from customers within a 20 mile radius of Augusta GA.

Reasons: Manufacture defect in LCD lid design (thin & lightweight), accidental damage, laptop mobility.

2. Failed Hard Drives: Hard drives in laptops I find also have a very high rate of failure. Just in the last month 15 laptops hard drives replaced. Maybe over 100 in the the year from laptops. Maybe 5 desktop hard drives replaced in the last year.

Reasons: Mobility of laptops, heat – lack of proper cooling within the tight compartment of the laptop, accidental damaged caused by user, lack of proper use & maintenance by the user. Hard drives do not like excessive HEAT, and hard drives do not like to be bumped, or dropped around. Another strike against laptops.

Anyone who owns a laptop who does not backup there important data on a regular basis, your setting yourself up for a big mess. Hard drive failure can happen at any time. Data recovery is not cheap, and is not guaranteed especially by cheap methods. Your data, your “stuff”, your work, your whole life on that hard drive can be lost. 1 in 20 clients that I ask, say they do backups. If the data that you have stored on your computer is “so important to you”,, why don’t you back it up? Any hard drive will fail at one time or another, but laptops hard drives fail much quicker than desktop systems.

3. Laptop Motherboard Failures: Also a very high rate of failure over desktop systems.

Reasons: Manufacture design, excessive heat due to lack of adequate cooling, lack of proper use & maintenance by the user. Use a laptop on your bed, couch or even on your laptop blocks the very small cooling vents off on the bottom of laptop, which generates more heat inside of the laptop. The #1 reason for computer hardware failure is heat, the internal hardware/electronics do not like heat,,, another strike against laptops in general.

4. Internal DC Power Jack Connector: The worst design, very common weak spot on Windows based laptops

Reasons: The internal DC Power Jack Connector is a very small, very important part on the laptop, break it, and your laptop is out of action once the battery runs out. Normal use, or accidental damaged caused by one to many hard tripped over power cords, a hard yank on the power cord will eventually loosen or break the power connection internally on laptops. Resulting intermittent battery charging, nom power at all by the power adaptor at all, and a “no power on”, dead laptop. The DC Jack is repairable at approx $135, full laptop dis-asembly is required, if the DC Jack has damaged or shorted out the motherboard….. your basically in for a new laptop.

Tips To Help Maintain Prolong The Life Of Your Laptop:

Be gentle, very gentle with your laptop, the electronics and hardware inside are very sensitive and delicate.
Do not sit your laptop on the floor, or chair, or couch, for you are asking for trouble! Do not drop your laptop, do not step on, sit on, or put anything on on top of the laptop. The screen is very delicate!
When closing the laptop, close the screen lid by the middle of the lid OR by both corners. Grabbing it by one of the corners can flex, torque, twist the lid and LCD screen panel inside, breaking, cracking the screen.
Do not use your laptop on a your bed or couch. The material conforms around the laptop bottom suffocating the laptop from cooling properly.
Do not leave your laptop on overnight, remember it does not cool properly to begin with.
Purchase a USB cooling pad for your laptop. This elevates the laptop, and has a USB cooling fan which circulates cool air to the bottom of the laptop, it’s heat source.
Run a disk cleaner, defragment the hard drive periodically and keep it virus free. A virus infected, fragment hard drive has to work much harder, more work means more heat that the hard drive generates.
Do not spill anything on or close by your laptop, this will create major problems also. If you do, turn your laptop upside down, you want to get that liquid away from the inside of the laptop, and DO NOT TURN IT BACK ON. Take it in for service to have the laptop checked.
And last but not least, for your own sanity, and piece of mind, that “so important data” that you were going to back up, that you just have not got around to backing up, that you thought will be there forever and ever on your laptop……………………….. BACK YOUR IMPORTANT DATA UP today, before you regret it!

Tips When Looking For A New Laptop:

Look for a laptop that is built sturdy, has some weight, that might take a bump or drop better then others. Do not let the light weight style, theme, the name, or the “bells & whistles” that attract you to the laptop fool you!
If the laptops are on display, and turned on, lift the laptop up, and put your hand on the bottom of the laptop. Does it feel hot just sitting there on there counter at idle speed on the underside, with nothing intensive running? While you are under there, check the cooling vents on the bottom, are they large enough to properly cool down that laptop? Run your hand over the keyboard from left to right, do you feel heat thru the keyboard area if you do move on, you are not interested in that laptop.
Grab the LCD lid, is it so thin does it flexes the screen? Slowly close it by one of the corners, does the lid flex or twist a bit? If it does, move on, your not interested in that laptop either. Last Christmas I was in Walmart here in town, they had 8 laptops turned on, and on display, they were also chain lock to the counter for security. 5 of the 8 laptops they had on the display counter, turned on had cracked screens, I don’t think they fell off the counter, I think they cracked from customers moving or closing the lid.
And if you find the right laptop, and they offer an extended warranty, find out what it covers, and take it for the maximum length.

iPhone: Say what you will about the iPhone as a device, but if there’s one consistent weak spot for U.S. users (particularly in cities like New York), it’s AT&T’s service—specifically frequent dropped calls. Mark the Spot quickly reports your problems.

The app is a breeze to use. Whenever you experience a dropped call, failed call, lack of coverage, data failure, or poor voice quality, just fire up the app, select the problem and frequency with which you experience it, and submit your report. The app uses your phone’s location awareness to let AT&T know where their service went afoul. You can also attach a note if you’re feeling really generous. In a perfect world you’d never need to worry about reporting problems, but it’s nice to know it’s an option.

Mark the Spot is a free download, iPhone only.

After discovering how easily WEP can be cracked and creating a long, secure WPA2 key, you’ve probably noticed it’s a pain to get friends connected to your Wi-Fi network when they stop by. Windows 7 makes this process easy.

Over at the How-To Geek site (my home away from Lifehacker), guest blogger Ciprian writes up the quick and easy process of transferring your wireless network settings from your Windows 7 PC to any other machine running XP, Vista, or Windows 7. To transfer the settings for yourself, head into the Network and Sharing Center, click on Manage Wireless Networks, and then in the properties for your wireless network you’ll find the link to open the wizard that will copy all your settings onto a flash drive.

Once you’ve got the settings backed up, you can use the bundled setupSNK.exe file on the flash drive to restore the settings onto another computer. Sure, you can always save the key to a text file, but having this feature built into the OS is very useful, especially since you don’t have to mess around with wireless settings.

YouTube Auto Buffer Makes the Popular Video Site a Lot Better

Firefox with Greasemonkey: The YouTube Auto Buffer Greasemonkey script tweaks the popular video sharing site to fix some of its most common annoyances. Specifically, it stops videos from automatically playing, turns on HD/HQ playback for all videos, and hides in-video advertisements.

All three of the tweaks YouTube Auto Buffer makes can be toggled, so if you’d really like to get rid of in-video ads but don’t want to always watch videos in HD or prefer that videos play automatically, you can just disable the two unwanted features. Or at least they can be toggled in theory. I had trouble getting my preferences to stick, so your mileage may vary.

Either way, it’s a nice little script that aims to fix some users’ common YouTube annoyances. For some other YouTube-specific tweaks, check out our very own Better YouTube Firefox extension. (With any luck, maybe we can convince Gina to incorporate some of the YouTube Auto Buffer features into said add-on.)

YouTube Auto Buffer is a free download, works with Firefox and the Greasemonkey extension.

Apple’s been bad, and now the FCC is all over Apple, AT&T, and Google trying to get to the bottom of the Google Voice app rejection from the iTunes App Store. So far no one’s really saying all that much beyond some legal maneuvering, and the only interesting bit of information (”What explanation was given for Apple’s rejection of the Google Voice application?”) was redacted. TechCrunch has the responses from AT&T, Apple, and Google if you really want the nitty gritty.
